Around 2AM on Thursday, January 5, 2023, the City of Peekskill Fire Department began receiving numerous 911 calls reporting a fire in the Hillcrest Park Development on Woods End Circle. Their first arriving units were met with heavy fire conditions in a 16-unit apartment building, initiated searches, began fire attack and transmitted the "10-75" for additional help.

On the transmission of the 10-75, Engine 119 was dispatched as the Firefighter Assist & Search Team along with an Engine from the Montrose VAFD, a Ladder from Mohegan FD, Cascade from Buchanan FD and EMS from Peekskill VAC.

Upon our arrival, fire was already through the roof and PFD units reported major water supply issues. Additional Tankers - including our Tanker 10 - were summoned to the scene. FASTeam personnel conducted size-up of the situation, placed ground ladders for emergency firefighter egress and assisted with suppression efforts.

In total, Tanker 10 made over 30 water shuttle runs, delivering an estimated 100,000+ gallons of water to the fire scene. While Engine 119 was clear of the scene around 6:30 AM, Tanker 10 would remain into the late afternoon. Fortunately members of the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department were available to rotate out personnel during the daytime. In total, over a dozen of our members operated at the scene or provided coverage back in Croton - where we had two additional incidents in our own district.

All 16 of the apartments were completely destroyed, leaving numerous people without their belongings and a place to live. Fortunately, only one tenant was injured, and was rescued by members of the Peekskill Fire Department.
