Mutual Aid to Mohegan for the Fully Involved House

Minutes before Super Bowl 50's kickoff, our FASTeam was dispatched to the fully engulfed house fire in the Lake Mohegan Fire District on Maple Court in southern Cortlandt. On the assignment were Car 2082 (Colombo) and Engine 119 with a full compliment of volunteers.

With the fire spreading throughout the two and a half story home in what seemed like only seconds, Mohegan FD mounted an exterior attack of the blaze. Our crew split into two teams, with Team 1 taking a position in the rear and Team 2 taking one in the front. With several hose lines and the Ladder Pipe from their L35 in use, a need for a second water source was noticed, and Command requested Engine 119's assistance.

E119's driver backed out of the cul-de-sac to Maple Avenue, where members secured a hydrant and laid out close to 500 feet of 5" supply hose in preparation to feed Mohegan's Engine 258.

The fire was brought under control about 90 minutes later, and the Croton crew was returned to service close to three hours later around 8:45 PM.

This was one of three calls for Croton's Bravest this past Sunday. Just before 6:00 AM, a full assignment investigated a haze of smoke in the 2000 block of Half Moon Bay Drive. This was caused by a malfunctioning heating unit. The third call of the day came about 30 minutes after we returned from the Mohegan fire, when a full assignment was once again sent to Half Moon Bay Drive, this time to the 600-block, for the malfunctioning stove.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help raise money to assist the family that lost their home in this fire. You can find that link below.
