| Saturday, while personnel were putting the finishing touches on the apparatus for the department's annual Inspection, Croton Fire was called into action.
At 4:30 PM Engine 118, Rescue 18 and Croton EMS were dispatched to a Motor-Vehicle Accident with Injuries on Grand Street near Niles Road. Within two minutes Car 2081, Car 2083, Engine 118 and Rescue 18 were responding. While responding, 60 Control advised Car 2081 of a reported house fire on Lounsbury Road, at which time he redirected to that scene.
On the arrival of Car 2083 and Engine 118 two minutes later, A/C Mansfield assumed the "Grand Street Command" reporting a two-car accident with one party pinned in the car. Lt. Kennedy and the crew of E118 immediately put the Jaws of Life from that rig to work until the arrival of R18. Working together, the crews of these apparatus successfully removed both driver's side doors in under 15 minutes and turned the patient over to EMS.
On the other side of the Village, Car 2081 was on the scene of the reported house fire investigating. After taking a quick look inside the house, he was met with black smoke and flames coming from the basement stairwell, and transmitted the "10-75" for a confirmed fire.
Engine 119 was first arriving and quickly put a 1 3/4" attack line in to position at the rear door. Firefighters Stewart and Crespo made a quick advance and knocked down the fire in under five minutes. After a quick check of the basement and first floor, units relayed to "Lounsbury Command" that the fire was knocked down, no visible extension. Based on this, Command returned the incoming Mutual Aid units and had Engine 120 redirect to the MVA scene on Grand Street.
Truck Company 44, under the lead of Captain Pellet, began aggressive ventilation of the home and checked the upper levels for any extension - which there was none. Lounsbury Command placed the incident "Under Control" ten minutes after arrival. Units remained on scene for a short time venting smoke before returning to service at 17:20.
Meanwhile, E118, E120 & R18 were still committed to the MVA on Grand Street, awaiting the removal of both vehicles. Once they were removed, all units returned to service at 18:05, with one patient off to Westchester Medical Center via CEMS and the Ossining Paramedic.
