A Productive "Firehouse Friday"

By CFD Staff Reporter
July 26, 2013

During the course of a normal Friday, members will go to work, spend time with their families - and often, like today - spend time responding to calls and performing other important tasks for the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department.

Around 7:10 this morning, units were called to a single car rollover accident on Mount Airy Road West, just past Purdys Corners. The driver was able to exit the vehicle on his own and declined medical treatment by Croton EMS. Units remained on scene until the vehicle was removed by a local tow company.

At 10:00 AM, Members met with the Millwood FD at the Van Wyck Apartments on Grand Street. For several months, department leaders have been working on pre-plans for fire events at this unique complex. Earlier in the week, our own Tower Ladder 44 was on site to conduct some evaluations and positioning practice. Today it was Millwood's turn with their much smaller and more versatile Ladder 52. Later in the morning, Engine 118 and Montrose VA FD Engine 225 also performed similar efforts. During the next week, the remaining Engine companies of the CFD will take their turn as well.

Around 1:05 PM, the CFD FAS Team was dispatched to a fire in a multi-family dwelling on Hunter Street in Ossining. As Engine 119 approached the scene, the OFD Incident Commander placed the fire under control and returned the Croton response.

The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department strives to be the best we can be, and for us to do this it takes the dedication of our volunteers to commit their time - whenever they can - such as on a lazy Summer day.

Our thanks to Montrose VA Fire Department, Millwood Fire Department and the folks at Van Wyck Apartments for their assistance and cooperation.
