| In the early morning hours of April 2, 2013, the Croton-on-Hudson FD was summoned to a home for an activated Carbon Monoxide alarm. On the arrival of CFD volunteers, they were met with a malfunctioning furnace, which led to a slight smoke and fairly substantial Carbon Monoxide condition in the home.
After evacuating the female occupant and her two dogs, personnel isolated the problem and ventilated the home of the smoke and poisonous gas. We explained to the homeowner how fortunate she was to have working CO detectors, and that they went to an alarm company who called her home and alerted her of the emergency.
On Wednesday, May 22nd, in appreciation for the rapid & professional response of the CFD, the ADT Security Company presented fourteen members with their "Lifesaver Award," and also presented the department with a donation in the amount of $5,000.00.
A brief ceremony was held at the home where the incident occurred on Lincoln Road, where ADT management recognized their dispatcher for his swift actions, the technicians that installed and maintained the alarm system for several years and to the volunteer members of the CFD that answered the call that pre-dawn morning.
The recipients from the Croton-on-Hudson FD were;
Captain Chris Colombo
Firefighter Ivan Crespo
Captain Phil Dinkler
Engineer Bill Gallagher
Captain Spencer Grant
Firefighter Linda Hannan
Firefighter Ryan Howles
Firefighter Josh Karpoff
Lieutenant Kevin McClone
Chief John Munson
Firefighter Brian Powers
Firefighter Dan Vlad
Asst. Chief Bill Vlad
Firefighter Bill Vlad Jr.
The generous donation will be used to help offset the cost of a new "Tactical Support Unit" that the department will be purchasing in coming months. This vehicle will carry support equipment to be used during storms and other minor incidents.
The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department extends our sincerest appreciation to ADT, as well as Mrs. Terry Rakov-DeGroat for telling ADT about her experience and giving us credit for what we do.
