Rush Hour Rollover on Route 9
By CFD Staff Reporter
May 14, 2013
A female driver appeared to have sustained only minor injuries after crashing into the center median and, according to reports, rolling her car several times yesterday. The accident occurred on southbound Route 9 on the Croton River Bridge at 5:30 PM - the beginning of the evening rush hour.
On the assignment were E119, E120 & R18 who were on the road minutes after dispatch, bringing close to two dozen CFD volunteers to the scene. Car 2081 (Chief Munson) arrived first, reporting the single-vehicle rollover with one victim out of the car and established the Route 9 Command.
E119 and R18 were brought up to the scene to assist with traffic control, patient care and cleanup of spilled fluids. E120 stopped traffic at the entrance to Route 9 at Croton Point Avenue.
Ten minutes into this incident, 60 Control dispatched E118 to a reported transformer explosion on Prospect Place. Again, as we routinely do, E118 was on the way minutes later with a full crew of members along with Assistant Chief Mansfield (Car 2083) and Deputy Chief Streany (Car 2086). With the incident on the highway under control, R18 was redirected to the Prospect job. Car 2083 had the Prospect Command.
All CFD units were clear of the highway roughly 30 minutes later, and units took up from the Prospect run fifteen minutes after.
The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department reminds all drivers to please avoid the urge to "rubberneck" when passing by an accident or other incident on the highway. Many times people will slow down (and often, stop) to take a gander or even snap photos of incidents - thus causing additional accidents. Please avoid the urge to stop on the highway and if you're interested in what is going on - please feel free to visit our website for all the latest. It's much safer to see what your Croton-on-Hudson FD is doing on your laptop or tablet from the safety and comfort of your recliner.
