Another Fire Weather Watch: Another Brush Fire
By CFD Reporter 912
April 3, 2013
The National Weather Service once again issued a "Red Flag Warning" today, meaning that critical fire weather conditions exist in our region. This is due to extremely dry ground conditions and sustained winds in the Lower Hudson Valley.
At just after 3:00 PM, 60 Control sent a full assignment to an auto body shop on South Riverside Avenue for the reported brush fire in close proximity to the structure. This is the second brush fire on South Riverside in as many days. Two minutes later, Cars 2081 & 2082 were on location confirming a brush fire roughly six feet from the building, spreading downhill towards the northbound side of Route 9.
Engine Company 119 and Tanker 10 arrived a minute later, with the crew of the Engine stretching the 1 3/4" trashline off the front bumper. T10 then provided E119 with a supply line, then assisted with the deployment of a second 1 3/4" crosslay from the Engine. Personnel from next-arriving E118 assisted with the fire attack and overhaul operations. The fire was kept to an area of roughly 100' x 50' and placed under control at 3:17 PM, a mere 15 minutes after CFD arrival.
All units were clear of the scene 45 minutes after arrival, and a response of over two dozen volunteers from Croton's Bravest were on scene.
