King Street Chimney Fire
By CFD Staff
March 23, 2013
Shortly before 11:00 PM on Saturday night, Croton's Bravest were called to a King Street home for the reported chimney fire. On the arrival of Car 2081 (Chief Munson), he reported a 50' x 30' two-story residence with active fire from the chimney, and established "King Street Command."
Tower Ladder 44 and Engine 119 arrived almost simultaneously, with the crew of the Truck sending members to the roof and to the interior to begin checking for extension. E119 secured a hydrant and stretched a 1 3/4" crosslay to the door. Using chimney chains, the fire was quickly brought under control with no extension to the structure.
With ample personnel on the Truck and Engine 119, Command put Engine 120 into service within ten minutes and shortly thereafter marked the incident "under control."
CFD companies removed burning wood and debris from the fireplace and chimney to the yard where it was extinguished before all units returned to service. Another solid response of two dozen volunteers was made.
