| On Monday afternoon, CFD pagers were activated to assist Con Edison with a possible gas leak inside the residence on the 30-block of Penfield Avenue. This would be the third time in less than two weeks units were dispatched to a possible gas incident in this neighborhood.
On the arrival of Croton FD units, Con Edison advised them that they were called for a possible gas leak in the home. With the home presently unoccupied, the Con Edison repairman wanted to take precautions and have the fire department there to assist with entry. As personnel were stepping off the rigs, the homeowner showed up, allowing everyone access after a brief discussion.
A quick investigation found no hazard, and Con Edison released the CFD units a short time later.
Ironically, CFD personnel completed their semi-annual training with Con Edison on responding to gas and electrical utility emergencies on the evening of February 21st.
On 2/14/13, companies located a gas leak on the 100-block of Benedict Boulevard leading to a home under construction. Crews turned off the gas going to the unoccupied house and awaited the arrival of Con Edison to repair the leak.
On the 16th, another leak was located a little further west, near the corner of Benedict Boulevard and Young Avenue.
These types of incidents are a great reminder to Croton residents that if they smell gas - or suspect a gas leak either outside or inside a building - they should contact the proper authorities to investigate. |
