February Training Nights Review
By Chief John Munson
February 21, 2013
Members of the CFD got together twice this month at the Harmon Firehouse as part of our annual training program.
On Wednesday 2/13, a review of our Thermal Imaging Cameras and Multi-Gas Meters was held, instructed by Steve Rossi from AAA Emergency Supply. The first part of the evening went over how these cameras work, their uses and how to maintain them. The second part of the evening was dedicated to the Mutli-Gas Meters carried on our apparatus. These tools can measure the level of Carbon Monoxide, Explosive Gases, Oxygen and Hydrogen Sulfide in the air indoors, outdoors and in confined spaces.
The second training night was held on Thursday 2/21. This lecture was given by Jim Feeney and Mark DiMaggio from Con Edison. The class was broken into two sessions, the first reviewing gas emergencies and the second a review of overhead and underground electrical emergencies. With the increasing number of severe weather events that have hit the Croton area, downed electrical line incidents have multiplied.
Both training nights were well attended with an average of 30 members at each. The department conducts no less than two training events per month, with each company routinely having drills themselves.
The Croton-on-Hudson FD extends our thanks to the instructors for helping us remain sharp in what we do.
