| On Thursday, February 7th, the Westchester County Fire Training Center held a "Graduation Ceremony," honoring those volunteers from around the county whom completed their basic firefighter training. Of the dozens of graduates that completed their training during 2012, six hailed from the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department.
New members are required to either complete the "Firefighter I Program," which is for those looking to be Interior Firefighters, or a "Scene Support Operations Program," geared for those looking to provide support outside of a fire scene.
Completing the minimum 87 hours of training were Daniel Bennett (E119), Ivan Crespo (E119), Josh Karpoff (R18), Kyle Mallory (E119), Tom Mosler (E118) and Alberto Urena (TL44). Due to prior commitments, Firefighters Bennett & Urena were unable to attend the ceremony.
In addition to the minimal training, all but one also completed the 9-hour Firefighter Survival class, and four of these six also completed the advanced 27-hour "Firefighter II" class.
Our department is not only made up of all volunteers such as these young men, as our roles include many female members. Persons interested in joining our department can be as young as only 14 years old, where they can become part of our Explorer Post. From here, they can follow the path so many others have and become full members upon turning eighteen.
On behalf of the Chiefs, Officers and Members of this department, we welcome these six to our ranks and look forward to working beside them for many years to come.
