Unusual Incident at Sky View
By CFD Staff Reporter
February 11, 2013
Just before 1:00 PM this Monday, Croton's Bravest - along with Croton EMS and Police - were dispatched to the Sky View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Albany Post Road for the reported motor-vehicle accident with entrapment down an embankment.
Car 2081 (Chief Munson) was first to arrive minutes later, reporting a minor accident with the driver pinned between a tree and the car. According to witnesses the man was exiting his car in the mid-level parking lot, and the vehicle rolled forward. His leg was hanging out of the car and when it lurched forward, the open door was pinned against a tree, trapping his lower leg between the door and car frame.
First arriving Engine 119, with a crew of eight, assessed the situation under the command of Lieutenant Feminella. The original thought was to move the tree, but after taking a look it was decided that using a saw that close the the man's leg was dangerous. Personnel then lifted the vehicle and moved it over enough to free his leg. Command reported the subject was no longer trapped at 13:09.
The crew of E119 assisted the man out of the car and turned him over to the waiting Croton EMS crew. He was transported a local hospital for what is reported as non-life-threatening injuries.
All units returned to service at 1:20 PM.
