At 08:56 this morning, Croton's Bravest were dispatched to the Atro Collision Center on South Riverside Avenue for a ruptured gas main adjacent to the structure.
On the arrival of Car 2081 (Chief Munson), he relayed to dispatch that the plastic service line to the building was accidentally punctured, causing a high-pressure leak of natural gas into the air. Croton PD units were then directed to close South Riverside Avenue to all traffic.
Command had first-arriving E119 stage at the hydrant on Oneida Avenue at the corner of South Riverside, E120 position near a hydrant at South Riverside and Clinton, then had TL44 and R18 both stage on South Riverside, leaving the front of the building open and keeping personnel and apparatus out of the potentially hazardous area.
Con Edison Gas was on location within 10 minutes of FD arrival and turned off the gas feed. Personnel then checked the building for any pockets of gas build-up under the direction of Asst. Chief Mansfield (Car 2083), which there was none. The situation was placed under control at 09:16, and all units went back into service at 09:21.
