Tanker 10 on Somers Brush Fire
By Deputy Chief John Munson
November 4, 2014
A few minutes after Midnight this past Tuesday, Croton-on-Hudson Tanker 10 was called Mutual Aid to a multiple alarm brush fire in the southern end of the Somers Fire District. Units had been operating for nearly an hour, and additional resources were needed.
Turning out of Station 2 a few minutes later, T10 with a full crew, as well as Car 2083 with an additional 3 volunteers, were on the way. The fire was located on the western side of Route 100, just north of Twin Knolls Drive in the "Katonah Section of Somers."
Tanker 10 arrived and made one drop of it's water tank, then went and refilled, returned to the scene and staged. Members of the T10 crew went to work in the woods extinguishing hot spots and opening up dead trees to snuff out the flames.
Croton's Bravest were released from the scene around 02:20.
Our thanks to Somers FD & Kempter's Fire Wire for the photos.
