Snow hit the Croton area this afternoon, making road conditions dangerous and in many cases, impassable. Chief Munson made the call for all companies to go on Storm Standby at 5:00pm. All of the department's apparatus were soon staffed by dozens of volunteers, who prepared for the evening's anticipated activity by checking their equipment and putting snow chains on the rigs. It wouldn't be long before the men & women were called to duty.
At 5:47pm, Tanker 10 was requested Mutual Aid to 1358 Kitchawan Road in Yorktown for a structural fire. On dispatch, Tanker 10 and Car 2081 were on the way with a full crew of firefighters. Due to multiple vehicles stuck on the southbound 9A hill, units had to detour through Ossining to get to the scene. While approaching the scene, Yorktown Command placed the fire "under control" and returned the CFD units.
At 7:46pm, A Full Assignment was sent to the Skyview Nursing Home for a commercial alarm. Once again, crews responded on dispatch and were on the scene investigating shortly after they were called to duty. The crew of first due E119 discovered the cause of the alarm to be an electrical problem in the basement, caused by electrician's working. After confirming there was no further hazard, Car 2081 returned all units to service at 8:02pm.
Shortly after clearing the previous run, at 8:18pm E118, R18 and Croton EMS were dispatched in the area of 20 Quaker Bridge Road for a Motor-Vehicle Accident with Injuries. On dispatch E118 (Code 6), R18 (Code 3) and Cars 2081 & 2083 were on the way. After units briefly checked the reported area, Car 2081 located the incident on Quaker Bridge Road East at Bridge Lane. He reported a one car accident, on it' side with a man trapped in the driver's seat. Due to the entrapment, E119 was added to the box with an additional set of extrication equipment. The crew of first arriving E118 stabilized the vehicle and began to gain access to the interior of the SUV via the trunk. They cleared the contents of the trunk, put the back seats down, and managed to assist the man out of the overturned auto. Despite the deployment of the side-curtain air bags, the man refused medical attention by Croton EMS. State Police came to the scene to standby until a tow truck came for the vehicle, and Command released all units at about 9:00pm.
All units returned to quarters, and remained on standby until 11:00pm.
