Driver Training: Engine 119
By Deputy Chief John Munson
May 5, 2014
Members of Washington Engine Company No. 2 and Explorer Post 2089 took advantage of the nice weather this past Monday to conduct a company drill at the Hudson Riverfront.
With several members currently in the Driver Training Program for Engine 119, it only made sense to take advantage of an "off night" where there was no meetings to attend to work on one of the finer arts of becoming a Driver/Operator - drafting.
Roughly half of our first-due district lacks pressurized fire hydrants, requiring us to seek alternative water sources. These sources include ponds, lakes, rivers and shuttling water via Tanker - such as our own 3,000 gallon Tanker 10. Without the luxury of pressurized water sources, we have to "pull" water from these sources.
Honing their skills this evening were Firefighters Matt Mallory, Chris Rinaldi and Birthday Girl Ashley Roosa.
During the training, a crew of four took in an alarm with Tanker 10 to avoid interrupting the important drill.
