Dozens Attend Hybrid Vehicle Training
By Chief John Munson
December 7, 2013
About three dozen firefighters from Croton and other area departments completed a day of training on Hybrid / Alternative Fueled Vehicles this past Saturday.
The class, presented by Daniel Wimer and his son, Jeffrey, of DRW Associates, reviewed the design, hazards and ways to mitigate an emergency involving vehicles with hybrid and high-voltage electricity fuel sources.
Attendees sat through a few hours of classroom lecture in Harmon Firehouse's classroom, then took the class downstairs to review where the dangerous components can be found in two loaner vehicles from Curry Toyota in Cortlandt Manor. Following lunch, participants put their learning to use in a simulated crash incident to show first responders how to deal with emergencies of this type.
The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department extends our appreciation to Daniel & Jeffrey Wimer of DRW Associates, as well as the sales team at Curry Toyota in Cortlandt Manor for helping us put our classroom learning to practical use.
