Another Year, Another Great Inspection

The volunteers of Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department assembled this past Saturday night for our annual Inspection of Apparatus at Harmon Firehouse. This event is held each year for our Village leaders and neighboring fire department officers to see our members and apparatus in their “Sunday best.”

With over seventy five CFD volunteers present, the department was able to proudly show off our fleet. The brief but thorough inspection of our apparatus was followed by a dinner and brief ceremony upstairs in our hall.

Chief John Munson welcomed our visiting Village Officials which included Manager Abe Zambrano and his wife, Trustees Ann Gallelli and Kevin Davis, as well as Mayor Leo Wiegman who commented that it “seemed like our members and apparatus were responding all over the place today.” This was probably due to our responses to a structure fire and car accident with entrapment shortly before the event kicked off.

Assistant Chiefs Vlad and Mansfield introduced our department’s Past Chiefs and the Officers of our five companies. Chief Munson presented Officers from all five companies a plaque, thanking their members for everything they have done during his tenure as Chief – which ends at the end of this year.

In a new tradition that started last year, the Chief presented “Years of Service Milestone” awards to several members, listed below. Most notably was a Fifty Years of Service pin given to Harold Lockwood, and a Fifty-Five Years of Service pin for Past Chief Michael Calcutti Jr., who was unable to attend.

And, like years past, the top ten responder's of the department in the previous year (2012) were given awards for their efforts to go “above and beyond.” They’re listed below as well.

The evening closed with the “Best Appearing Apparatus” award, which went to Tower Ladder 44. Captain Mike Pellet and Engineer John “Stretch” Oles happily accepted this honor for their company.
