At 2:30 PM this past Friday, Croton Fire was dispatched to the Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School on Gerstein Street for the reported gas leak. A contractor doing work at this school struck the high-pressure main that feeds the school.

On the box were all five CFD companies and Car 2083 (Assistant Chief Mansfield). While units were responding to this call, another run came in for a motor-vehicle accident with injuries on Old Post Road North, near Terrace place. Car 2083 redirected E119 & R18 to this call, while holding E118, E120 & TL44 at CET. The Tanker was returned to service quickly.

Units evacuated multiple houses in the area until the gas could be turned off. After, those houses and the school itself were checked for any build-up of gas - which proved negative.

All companies were returned to service around 3:00 PM from both incidents.
