Before Noon on Tuesday, Ossining Fire & EMS were dispatched to Route 9/9A nortbound, just south of the Croton River Bridge, for a rolled over tractor-trailer accident. On their arrival, they found the driver pinned in the cab of his truck, which was laying on it's side on the embankment between the northbound and southbound lanes. To complicate things, the truck took down a telephone pole with a live electrical wire, which delayed access to firefighters and EMS.

Once they were able to get at the patient, EMS made the request for a Medivac helicopter to the scene based on the time the driver was trapped and the major backup of traffic on the highway. Ossining Command (A/C Scarduzzio) requested the assistance of Croton Fire to shut down traffic and secure a perimeter to land the chopper. Car 2081, Engine 119, Engine 120 & Rescue 18 took in the assignment.

After getting in to position and securing the bridge, it was determined that weather conditions were not favorable and the chopper aborted the mission. Command held E119 on scene to assist if needed and to cover additional runs in Ossining. The patient was successfully extricated by the OFD and A&P Towing a time later and taken to Westchester Medical Center by Ossining EMS.

OFD Command released Croton FD units at 14:10 hours. The highway was closed for several hours to remove the vehicle and to conduct an investigation.
