Just before 5:00 AM this Tuesday morning, a resident on Lincoln Road was awakened by her Carbon Monoxide alarm sounding. Minutes later, the CFD was on the way with the normal CO Investigation assignment of E119 & R18 along with Car 2081 (Chief Munson). When the homeowner went downstairs to investigate, she found her basement filling with smoke from a malfunctioning furnace and called 911 with this updated information. Based on this update, Chief Munson had 60 Control upgrade the box for a full assignment.

On the arrival of first-arriving units, they confirmed light smoke from the residence and a smoke condition in the basement. The crew of E119 then disabled the oil burner and vented the home of smoke and toxic CO gas. Command returned all other units to service within 25 minutes, keeping only E119 on scene.

We encourage all Croton residents to install Carbon Monoxide alarms on all levels of their home. This simple equipment malfunction can cause CO Poisoning or even become a fatal event. Luckily, nobody became ill at this morning's incident.
