A wind-driven blaze destroyed a home in Cortlandt Manor within the Montrose Fire District on the evening of January 15th, bringing a massive response from area fire departments that worked throughout the night to bring the fire under control.

Just before 9:00 PM on a cold and windy Sunday night, the Montrose Fire Department was dispatched to a residence on Flanders Lane for a report of smoke in the attic. A first-arriving Chief Officer reported heavy smoke showing and requested the working fire (10-75) assignment. Battling freezing temperatures, strong wind gusts and water pressure issues, a 2nd Alarm and subsequent requests for Tankers was also made.

Croton units - including Car 2081, Engine 119, Tanker 10 and Utility 208 assisted with the fire suppression efforts for close to five hours.

Two days later, pockets of fire continued to burn in the remnants of the home, and Montrose FD again requested assistance from the Croton-on-Hudson FD. This time, Engine 118 and Utility responded and assisted with final extinguishment of the stubborn fire.
