With a new year comes some changes in the ranks at the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department. On Thursday evening, in front of members, family, friends and the entire Village of Croton-on-Hudson Board of Trustees - including Mayor Greg Schmidt - the newly elected and appointed Officers for the new year were sworn in, taking their oaths of office for 2016. After completing his third term as Chief of the Department, William C. Vlad steps down and assumes the role of Deputy Chief, turning the department over to his successor, Matt Mansfield. Chief Mansfield commented that being the Chief of the CFD is a "privilege" and that he is "humbled" to take on this role. Filling his position at First Assistant Chief and moving up from Second Assistant Chief is Chris Colombo. Colombo thanked everyone for their support and made mention of the success of our Explorer Post 2089, a program that he was once a member of and his son, Chris Colombo Jr., now holds the position of Captain in. The newest member of the Chief's Office is our new Second Assistant Chief, Chris Pesavento. Pesavento begins his ascent up the executive ladder this year, following in his father's (Bruno Pesavento Sr.) footsteps. The elder Pesavento served as a Chief of the Croton-on-Hudson FD from 1976 to 1978. The new Chief thanked everyone for their service and told a story about a recent conversation he had with one of the Ex-Chiefs about how proud and honored it is to hold such a rank within this organization. Following suit in the family-themed installation ceremony, William Vlad Jr. - the outgoing Chief's son - was sworn in as the new Second Lieutenant of Harmon Engine Company No. 3 as well. The department is beginning it's 124th year proudly serving our village, the Quaker Bridge and Mount Airy Fire Protection Districts in the Town of Cortlandt and all of our neighboring jurisdictions. We are as proud and as dedicated as we were in our humble beginnings, and can only hope others may join our ranks and perhaps one day be fortunate enough to hold an elected post here at the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department. 2016 DEPARTMENT OFFICERS Chief of Department: Matthew T.
