At 12:33 PM on a rainy Wednesday, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department was called to an unusual event on Bungalow Road - where a car drove off the roadway and into the pond. On the initial dispatch were Engine 120 and Rescue 18 along with EMS.

Car 2089 (DC J. Munson) arrived less than two minutes later and reported the vehicle was fully submerged in the pond and the driver was out of the car and in the care of Croton EMS, who witnessed the incident and was already on scene. Car 2082 (AC Mansfield) arrived and assumed Command, delegating 2089 as the Operations Officer. At this point, Utility 14 was added to the assignment for support.

Croton Police Dive Team members were on the scene and reported to Command that they would be entering the water to confirm there were no other occupants and to connect the vehicle to a tow truck for removal. At this point, the IC requested the Yorktown Heights FD Dive/Water Rescue Team for assistance, as well as had Marine 32 and Marine 52 brought to the scene by U14.

Two CFD Members - both qualified Water Rescue Technicians - used Marine 52 to support the CPD divers and set up an oil-absorbing boom to contain the spilled fluids from the vehicle. CFD personnel provided land-based support to the divers as well as cleaned up spilled fluids in the roadway from the vehicle once it was removed from the pond.

While divers were in the water, Croton EMS and the Ossining Paramedic provided standby personnel. Bungalow Road was closed for the duration of the operation, which took just less than two hours.

Luckily the driver escaped the vehicle unharmed and there were no other injuries reported.
