A fire in a pile of leaves in the parking lot adjacent to the Chromascan building at the corner of South Riverside Avenue and Brook Street quickly spread to a nearby parked car this past Wednesday.

The original dispatch of Engine 120, for a pile of leaves on fire, was promptly upgraded to include Tanker 10 as the front end of the late 1980's Cadillac was well involved in fire. Car 2083 (Asst. Chief Colombo) arrived and took Command, and directed first-arriving T10 to pull on to Brook Street and stretch a line down the driveway between 18 and 20 Brook Street. The personnel with T10 made quick work of the car fire and contained the brush fire while E120 positioned in the lot on South Riverside and advanced another line to keep the fire from spreading.

Once the fire was extinguished, personnel disconnected the battery in the car and soaked down the area to prevent any additional fire spread or re-ignition. Command placed the situation under control with 60 Control 19 minutes after CFD arrival.

Over fifteen Croton FD volunteers from all five companies and Explorer Post 2089 were on scene. There were no injuries and the fire was stopped before reaching any of the nearby structures. Croton FD cleared the scene 55 minutes after dispatch at 15:25.
