A "Red Flag Warning" for an increased chance of brush fires was issued by the National Weather Service on Wednesday, due to low humidity and high winds in our area. At 1:15 PM, we found ourselves responding to one in the Montrose Fire District.

60 Control dispatched Tanker 10 to the Oscawana Lake Preserve, at the end of Furnace Dock Road to the west of the Metro-North train tracks, where Montrose had been operating for a couple of hours at a fairly large brush fire.

Tanker 10 with Car 2089 (DC J. Munson) were on the way minutes later, bringing ten members to assist. Upon arrival, we were tasked with supplying the Montrose VAFD's Engine 225 with water. Using a device called a "Turbo Draft" carried on T10, we were able to pull water from a lagoon to supply E225.

VAFD and Montrose firefighters, working with the Westchester County Police SOD's Marine & Aviation Unit, were able to extinguish the blaze a short time later. When Tanker 10 was no longer needed on scene, we moved up to Montrose FD headquarters to help with coverage in the area while Verplanck & Montrose worked another brush fire near George's Island Park.
