At around 12:34 AM on Sunday morning, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department was called to the scene of a structure fire at Flames Steakhouse in the Town of Ossining. At this location, Briarcliff Manor FD volunteers arrived at an activated fire alarm to find the building filling with smoke. Car 2052 (A/C Garcia) requested his full First Alarm from 60 Control, bringing our FASTeam to the scene with an Engine & Ladder from Ossining and a Ladder from Millwood.

A dozen CFDFAST members were on scene, where they were advised by Command that the fire was out, and crews were opening up and checking for extension. The Croton units, which included Car 2083 (A/C Colombo) and Rescue 18 (acting FAST rig for Engine 119), were returned to service a short time later.

This incident - once again - highlights how important it is to install smoke alarms in your home and business. The original call was for an activated fire alarm. Units arrived to find smoke on the second floor or a mixed-use building, where a restaurant occupied the first floor. Staff and patrons on the first floor weren't even aware of the fire until the fire department arrived. A fire was found in the wall behind the stove in the restaurant's kitchen, and the smoke filled the top floor apartments.

Volunteers from Briarcliff Manor, Croton-on-Hudson, Ossining and Millwood were on scene, while additional volunteers from Chappaqua and Pleasantville provided coverage for Briarcliff FD.
