Nearly twenty members of Washington Engine, and a couple from Explorer Post 2089, ventured to the Westchester County Fire Training Center this past Saturday for a day of great training.

The members were split up into three squads and each put through three different training stations. Station 1 was led by Lieutenant Jim Ferguson, and reviewed standpipe operations in the 5-story training tower. Here, crews reviewed the basics of working from a standpipe, which can be found in several structures in our district.

The second station was led by Lieutenant Dave Rinaldi, and was a review of forcible entry and search. This was achieved using a forcible entry door prop, and by searching the basement of the training center's old "smoke house." Thanks to Assistant Chief Stupple from Eastchester FD for helping with this.

Lastly, personnel worked with Captain John Munson on hose line selection, estimating the length of a stretch and advancement of the line in the "Burn Building." Here, crews pulled the 1 3/4" dead lay off the tail of Engine 119 and simulated a fire attack on three different levels of the building.

Our driver trainees were also rotated to give each some time on the pump of the Engine as well. It was a very beneficial day of review training, and gave everyone a chance to work together as a team to build up their skills and abilities.

Thank you to the Westchester County Fire Training Center, as well as Lieutenant Jim Sheridan (NRFD) and Assistant Chief Bob Morris (Stamford FD) for making it a great Saturday of learning.
