Busy Week for Croton's Bravest

The members of Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department were busy this past week, responding to a dozen calls for help from Monday through Friday. Here's a quick look at that activity;

Monday 12/15

05:49 - A Chief's Call was dispatched at 5:50 AM to assist a homeowner with a cat trapped in an air duct on Bramblebush Road. While preparing to respond to assist, the cat was freed and our Chiefs were cancelled.

08:20 - Companies were sent to Old Post Road North and Stevenson Place for an outside gas leak. Units on the assignment were E118, E119 & R18 with 2089 (D/C Munson) in command. Con Edison dispatched a crew who was working on the problem as of press time.

11:13 - Units were dispatched to a trash can fire at the Dairy Mart on South Riverside and Benedict Blvd. E120, R18 & 2081 (Chief Vlad) handled this incident.

16:39 - A Full Assignment was dispatched to the 100-Block of North Highland Place for a possible dryer fire. Crews arrived and determined there was no fire, just steam. Car 2083 (A/C Colombo) had command.

Tuesday 12/16

07:29 - A CPD Sergeant on patrol summoned the Croton FD for an odor of gas at Benedict Boulevard and Hastings Avenue. Units determined a leak from a street main and dispatched Con Edison, who corrected the problem. E119, E120, R18 on scene with 2089 (D/C J. Munson) in command.

Wednesday 12/17

10:25 - Units responded to a residential fire alarm on Teatown Road. The alarm was setoff in error. E118, TL44, T10, R18 dispatched, Car 2081 (Chief Vlad) had command.

20:41 - Croton FD & EMS were dispatched to a rollover motor-vehicle accident in front of 5 Truesdale Drive. The occupant was able to get out of her car unharmed. FD remained on scene assisting with lighting and traffic control until the vehicle was towed away. E120, R18, 2081, 2082 & 2083 were on the ticket, Chief Vlad had command.

Thursday 12/18

09:03 - A Full Department Response was dispatched to the 400-Block of South Riverside Avenue for an odor of gas in the business. Crews determined a faulty hot water heater was to blame and disabled same. Con Edison was on scene and confirmed the issue. Units on this run were E118, E119, E120, TL44 & R18 with 2089 (D/C J. Munson) in command.

09:15 - While units operated at the above incident, a commercial fire alarm was received from another business along the 400-Block of South Riverside. This alarm was accidentally setoff by a repairman. TL44 & R18 handled with 2082 (A/C Mansfield) in command.

Friday 12/19

09:30 - A Full Department Response was summoned to a home on Amber Drive, where Con Edison needed assistance with another gas leak. On this run were E118, E119, E120, T10, R18 and Car 2083 (A/C Colombo).

19:34 - Units handled a malfunctioning fire alarm at the Hudson National Golf Course. E119, E118, R18, 2083 & 2084 responded, with A/C Colombo in charge.

20:17 - While returning to quarters from the previous run, units were sent to the upper end of Farrington Road for a reported dryer fire. Units arrived and found a small fire in a dryer that was extinguished. After venting the home of smoke and removing the appliance from the building, all CFD units returned to service. E118, E119, E120, TL44, R18, 2081, 2083 on scene, with Chief Vlad in Command.
