On Monday morning around 11:00 AM, Croton's Bravest were dispatched to a reported motor-vehicle fire on northbound Route 9, near Croton Point Avenue. A highway assignment of two Engines (E120, E119), Tanker 10 and Rescue 18 were dispatched. Car 2083 (Asst. Chief Colombo) arrived first, reporting smoke from a vehicle on the northbound Croton River Bridge. He instructed first-arriving Engine 119 to take the right lane and stretch their pre-connected 100' bumper line. Rescue & Tanker arrived next shutting down the center lane of traffic to give personnel a safe area to work. E120 positioned south of the other units to help move traffic over. Personnel located a small electrical fire coming from the battery area in the rear of the SUV and knocked it down quickly. Units remained on scene until the vehicle was removed by a wrecker around 11:45 AM. The occupants of the vehicle were able to escape unharmed. |
