CFD #501 Graduates Firefighter I
By Deputy Chief John Munson
July 30, 2014
After several months of rigorous training, Probationary Active Firefighter (PAF) Tommy "Scanners" Kaplan graduated the New York State Firefighter I program. This training is over 100 hours long, and was completed during evenings and weekends at the Westchester County Fire Training Center in Valhalla.
The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department is made up of men, women and teenagers who commit their time to our department - while juggling their jobs, school and family - for the benefit of our community. PAF Kaplan is no exception.
At the age of 14, "Scanners" joined Explorer Post 2089. As soon as he turned 16, he became a part of our PAF Program and soon after enlisted in this Firefighter I & Survival program. He is a common fixture around his firehouse and company, Tower Ladder 44.
Congratulations PAF Kaplan and thank you for your commitment to the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department!
