A strong line of thunderstorms rolled through the area this evening, bringing heavy rains, wind and dangerous lightning. At 5:15 PM, Croton's Bravest were dispatched to Lexington Drive for a house struck by lightning and filling with smoke.

With this incident occurring in the known low water pressure area of Harmon, and because our Tower Ladder 44 remains out of service for repairs, Ossining Ladder 41 and Tankers from Yorktown and Millwood were also dispatched on the initial assignment.

The first arriving crew of Engine 119 with Assistant Chief Colombo (2083) made entry and confirmed the home was struck by lightning, and did not appear to be on fire, however it sustained substantial damage to the roof and a room on the second floor. Car 2081 (Vlad) established the Lexington Command.

Personnel from E120 & T10 assisted with the investigation, while E118 secured a hydrant near Sunset Park. Once Ossining L41 arrived, they took position in front of the building and their crew used a portable ladder to check the roof area.

Realizing there was no fire, Command returned the two Mutual Aid Tankers at 5:24 PM, and held all Croton and Ossining units on scene until the situation was under control at 5:41 PM.

All units were back in service at 6:00 PM after helping the homeowner, who also was checked out by Croton EMS as a precaution. Over two dozen CFD volunteers were on scene.
