| The weather was perfect for the Washington Engine Company No. 2's annual Memorial Day Service on Monday. This tradition has been held for years, and offers our members a time to reflect on our lost. Company President Joe Streany led the service on the front lawn of Station #2, which began with a welcoming of guests, followed by several prayers led by Lay Chaplain John Coyne. Village Board Member Kevin Davis was in attendance, and offered a few words of thanks and remembrance for our members, as well as those Croton residents that gave their lives in combat. Among those are three men from Washington Engine; Lt. Joseph Kuney (Korea), Cpl. Thomas Giglio (Korea) and Cpl. Harold O'Riley (WWII). As we have done in years' past, Captain Mike Feminella presented "Top Responder" awards to the ten most active members in 2013. Following this, PAF Kyle Mallory, who heads off to basic training with the United States Marine Corps in July, and Vietnam Veteran Tom Ferguson, lowered our old flag and raised a new one, while onlookers saluted it proudly. Following the company's ceremony, members boarded both apparatus and attended the village's Memorial Day Service at Veterans Corners. Our thanks to FF Meraash Deen of Harmon Engine for taking these photos. |
