Just before 3AM this Sunday, the CFD FAS Team was at it again, this time responding to the City of Peekskill for the structure fire in a 100+ year old building under renovation. Within a couple of minutes, Rescue 18 was out the door, responding with ten FAST members including Car 2083 (A/C Colombo).

On arrival, the team developed a Rescue Plan in the event of any firefighter emergencies, and ensured ladders were put in place on the 2nd and 3rd floors. With a lack of windows and minimal entry/exit points, the team was on a heightened sense of alertness.

The fire reportedly began within a dumpster located inside of an annex-type building attached to the rear. The fire followed void spaces into the main 3 1/2 story front building, creating a smoky condition that challenged firefighters in snuffing out the hidden pockets of fire.

Peekskill Command called a relief FAST company from Yorktown, and after briefing them of conditions, our members began assisting PFD personnel with the fire suppression and overhaul duties.

Croton units were released from the scene around 06:15.

In addition to Peekskill FD units, Mutual Aid was called from Mohegan, Montrose, Buchanan and Yorktown, while station coverage was provided by an Ossining Ladder, and Engines from Buchanan and Continental Village.

Our thanks to the PFD and the PFD Pictures Facebook page for allowing us use of their photos, as well as a thank you to FF Matt Eichler from Buchanan FD.
