10:15 PM: While CFD units were investigating an activated fire alarm on the Village's north end, 60 Control dispatched a full assignment to Windsor Road in the Fire Protection District for the reported Chimney Fire.

In addition to a full CFD response, automatic dispatch for the Millwood and Continental Village Tankers was made, due to the lack of hydrants in this area. Car 2089 (D/C John Munson) arrived first, confirming fire showing from the chimney of the two story frame, private residence.

After evacuating the residents, crews from E120 & TL44 went right to work throwing portable ladders to gain access to the roof, stretching a dry hose line to the front door and a charged hose line to the roof. The crew of E118 conducted a check for fire extension within the residence, which luckily there wasn't any.

Using chimney chains, a "chimney flare" and a hose with a special "chimney nozzle," the fire was contained to and extinguished in the chimney itself.

With the fire being contained immediately, Command (Chief Vlad Car 2081) returned the Tanker from out of town. An hour into the incident, Engine 118 & Tanker 10 were dispatched to an additional fire alarm activation in the village.

Friday kept Croton's volunteers busy - answering five total calls for the day.

A total of almost 40 CFD volunteers handled this incident.
