11:45 AM FRIDAY: As an Ossining PD unit was patrolling down State Street, he noticed smoke and fire coming from a vacant residence. Moments later, OFD Car 2332 (A/C Scarduzzio) struck the box, calling for his 10-75 assignment, calling for our FAS Team.

Within minutes, Car 2082 (A/C Mansfield) and Rescue 18 (covering for Engine 119 which is out for repairs) were responding with a full compliment of qualified volunteers.

At the scene, heavy fire was showing from the roof of the three story balloon-frame dwelling, which had exposure issues in the form of similar homes separated by minimal space. With fire conditions being so severe and the looming threat of the fire extending to a neighboring house, Command called for a relief FAST company from Thornwood, and put the Croton men "to work."

After a couple of hours, the stubborn blaze was snuffed out, and all units returned to service. The fire's cause remains under investigation.

In addition to Ossining FD units, Ossining EMS, Briarcliff FD & EMS, Millwood FD & Thornwood FD were on scene. An Engine & Ladder from Tarrytown relocated to Ossining FD HQ.
