| While our area continued to get battered with snow, sleet and rain, Croton's Bravest continued to keep busy. Around 10:40 PM on Thursday, Fire, Police & EMS units were dispatched to Croton Point Avenue for a report of a truck hitting the Route 9 overpass. First-arriving Car 2089 (D/C Munson) reported a dump truck struck the overpass and took down several electrical and telephone wires on Croton Point Avenue. The driver was quickly put into the care of Croton EMS for treatment of several non life-threatening traumatic injuries. He was taken to the Westchester Medical Center's Trauma Unit via CEMS and the Ossining Paramedic. Croton Fire units remained on scene while the vehicle was removed by a local heavy towing company. As units were taking up from this incident, 60 Control dispatched a Full Department Response - along with Tankers from Millwood and Yorktown - to a Lexington Drive home for the reported oven fire. Arriving almost simultaneously, Cars 2081 and 2083, as well as Engines 119, 120 and Resuce 18, found a small fire in an electric oven during a self-cleaning operation. Car 2081 (Chief Vlad) had Command while Car 2083 (A/C Colombo) had Operations. The crew of E119 set up a fan to vent the home and shut off the power to the appliance. Command placed the situation under control within five minutes and returned the Tankers from out of town. All units returned to service within 35 minutes. As a reminder to all Croton residents - PLEASE SHOVEL OUT THE HYDRANTS NEAR YOUR HOMES!!! Our crews had difficulty finding hydrants for the incident on Lexington Drive - luckily they weren't needed this time, but we may not be so lucky next time. If you are physically unable to shovel out a hydrant near your home, call us at (914) 271-2693 or email info@crotonfd.org and we will provide you with assistance. Photos from FF #511 |
