FAST Called to Another Ossining Blaze
By CFDFAST
August 21, 2013
Just before 4:00 AM on Wednesday morning, Croton's Firefighter Assist & Search Team was called to a blaze in downtown Ossining. Within minutes, Engine 119 was on the way, bringing a crew of over one dozen volunteers to the scene.
On arrival, they found Ossining volunteers heavily engaged in a stubborn, fast-moving fire in an older home. Complicating things were the hoarder-like conditions, creating pockets of fire and impassable areas for the OFD to reach safely.
The CFDFAST split into two teams, covering the entire perimeter of the structure. Members threw multiple ladders along with OFD Truck Company members to provide emergency egress points for those working inside, and constantly monitored fire conditions, radio traffic and reports from the Incident Commander, Chief Jason Lorenz.
The Croton FD was released from the scene around 8:45 AM, while Ossining units remained on scene into the evening, hitting hot spots and awaiting a demolition team.
