Marine 12 Assists With Missing Boater
By Chief John Munson
August 21, 2013
The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department's Marine 12 was dispatched to the Hudson River around 1:20 this morning for a person missing in the water.
Joining M12 were rescue boats from Rockland County, as well as Verplanck FD and Irvington FD in Westchester County. Reports were that a woman was unaccounted for on a boat in the Haverstraw Bay, and her husband, also on the boat, believed she fell overboard.
Haverstraw FD established Command on their side of the river, and coordinated the search effort. Personnel from fire and police agencies walked along the shore of the river while the boats canvassed the area.
About an hour and twenty minutes later, the woman was spotted and plucked from the dark water and taken to shore by a Stony Point FD vessel. She was evaluated for injuries at a local hospital and later released.
Car 2083 (A/C Mansfield) staged at the Croton Yacht Club with Croton EMS until all units were placed back into service.
