At 11:40 AM last Thursday, Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department, Croton EMS, the Ossining EMS Paramedic Unit and Westchester County Police were called to Croton Point Park for the report of an overturned garbage truck with possible injuries.

Units were met at the main office by the driver of the truck and other staff members, stating the accident actually occurred further into the park near the swimming pool. EMS remained with the patient here, while FD units continued to the scene. Cars 2088 (Deputy Chief Phil Dinkler) and 2089 (Deputy Chief John Munson) arrived first, finding the smaller truck on it's side down an embankment - with personnel and equipment already on scene attempting to right the vehicle.

Command (2089) had Engine 119 continue up to the scene to stand-by while the vehicle was put back on to it's wheels and on a tow truck for removal, and held E118 and R18 in staging at the main parking lot. Personnel from E119 checked the vehicle to confirm no other occupants were inside or under it and confirmed no hazardous fluids from the vehicle had spilled. Once it was determined no hazards or other patients were found, Command released E118 & R18 from the scene.

CFD personnel - some 20 volunteers - remained on scene for just over an hour as a precaution. The driver of the vehicle declined medical treatment or transportation, and the scene was turned over to County Parks and County Police.
