Around 4PM on Friday, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department was dispatched - along with Croton EMS, Croton Police, Ossining EMS Paramedics and the Yorktown Heights FD Dive Team - to the Croton River for a reported drowning.

Car 2082 (Assistant Chief Colombo) arrived and established Command, sending Officers of the CFD to various locations to attempt to confirm the last known location of the victim. After interviewing witnesses it was determined that the original location - at the end of Nordica Drive - was well south of the actual incident location closer to Silver Lake Park.

Divers from the YHFD Dive Team began to search the water behind a home on Truesdale Drive in the area where the victim was last seen. After checking the area after a methodical search pattern, the victim was located and pulled from the water by two YHFD Divers, and then all three were taken to shore by our Marine 32. CPR was initiated, and the subject was carried up the hill to awaiting Paramedics and EMTs.

Despite the valiant efforts of CFD, CEMS, YHFD and OVAC personnel, as well as the team of nurses and doctors at the Westchester Medical Center, the 18 Year-Old - Jorge Chapa Tenesaca of Ossining - did not survive.

The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department would like to remind everyone to respect the rules and regulations regarding the Croton River. Swimming is only allowed in certain areas, as those where swimming is prohibited pose significant safety risks to those that enter the water.
