Over the course of two evenings last week, three dozen of Croton's Bravest participated in vehicle extrication training at our Grand Street Firehouse. Utilizing four donated vehicles, our members were able to get ample time in on the various tools used by our department's apparatus.

Coordinated by the CFD Training Division, this training had previously been planned one weekend last month, however it had to be rescheduled, thus pushing it to last week.

The participants were split into two teams each night, mixing up our senior members, junior members and newer Line Officers to give everyone a more realistic atmosphere to work in. Members were put to work sizing up the scene, implementing a rescue plan, stabilizing the vehicles, disconnecting the power to the vehicles, removing a single door, removing the entire side of the vehicles, displacing the dashboard and then removing the roof. Each evolution took an average of one hour each night.

The CFD Training Division thanks all of the members that took the time to attend this important training, especially those that led the groups each time - including Captain Sarcone (E118), Captain Karpoff (R18), Lieutenants Bennett (E118), Roosa (E119), Stewart (E119) & Engineers Gallagher (T10) and Pusatere (U14).

Having access to donated vehicles such as these is crucial for us to fine-tune our skills. If you have a car you are willing to donate, please email us at info@crotonfd.org or call our Office at (914) 271-2693.
