At 12:22 PM today, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department was called to a mutli-family home on Van Wyck Street for a reported structure fire. Responding on the assignment were 2082, 2083, 2084, E118, E119, E120, TL44 & U14.

2082 (A/C Colombo) was on scene less than two minutes after dispatch, reporting people attempting to extinguish a fire on the front porch. 2083 (A/C Pesavento) arrived and assumed Command.

E119 (Washington Engine) was the first-arriving apparatus, and stretched a pre-connected 2" hose line to both finish extinguishment and as a precaution should it be needed elsewhere. Engines 118 & 120 both secured hydrants as a precaution, while Tower Ladder 44 took a position at the front of the structure.

Personnel from all companies checked for extension and smoke inside the structure just to confirm no fire had traveled inside.
Using a reciprocating saw, members also removed a section of the burnt-up porch to access the underside of it to soak it down as well.

All units returned to service within 30 minutes. Credit is given also to Croton Police officers who used their fire extinguishers to knock down the flames, which were less than a foot away from the gas meter.

About three dozen CFD volunteers were on scene. Car 2083 (A/C Pesavento) had Command.
