Friday Morning Door Pop on Route 129
By CFD On-Scene Reporter
June 24, 2016
At 9:39 Friday morning, Croton Fire, Croton EMS and the Ossining Paramedic Fly Car were dispatched to Route 129 (Yorktown Road) and Short Hill Road in Cortlandt for a two-vehicle collision. On the initial assignment was Engine 118 (Chemical) and Rescue 18.
Car 2081 (Chief Mansfield) arrived minutes later, reporting a two-vehicle accident and that one subject was still in the car requiring a "Door Pop." With the confirmation of entrapment, Engine 119 (Washington) was added to the box for additional equipment and personnel. Car 2081 established "Yorktown Road Command" at this point.
Using their recently purchased battery-operated "Jaws of Life," the crew of E118 (Chemical) successfully removed the driver's door in about seven (7) minutes, allowing EMS access to the patient. Command had E119 continue in non-emergency to the scene.
Units remained on location until the vehicles were removed by local tow companies. Two patients were taken to an area hospital by Croton EMS for treatment of reportedly non-life-threatening injuries.
