December 21, 2015

A fast-moving blaze destroyed a large Garrison home on Monday night, bringing our Tanker 10 in on the 2nd Alarm Tanker Task Force. Car 2083 (Colombo) and Tanker 10 were on scene just 12 minutes after dispatch with over a dozen Croton Fire volunteers.

Upon T10's arrival as the 3rd arriving Tanker, we assisted by shuttling water to the scene from a hydrant a few miles away and provided manpower to help with the suppression effort. It's estimated that T10 shuttled over 20,000 gallons of water to the scene along with Tankers from Putnam County including Garrison, Continental Village, Cold Spring, North Highlands, Yorktown Heights from Westchester & Fort Montgomery from Orange County.

Various units from Putnam, Westchester, Orange and Dutchess Counties provided support either on scene or covering stations during this prolonged operation that extended into the following evening.

During this incident, additional Croton units answered a call for the reported odor of gas on Beekman Avenue at 2:30 AM. On this alarm was Car 2081, Engine 118, Engine 120 & Rescue 18. No hazard was found, as the odor is believed to be from a dog getting sprayed by a skunk.

Our units were back in town from Garrison around 4:30 AM.
