Last Sunday morning, 5 members of the Croton Fire Department participated in the Stephen Siller "Tunnel to Towers" Run. Chemical Engine Firefighters Ben Goldsmith, Danny Bennett, Jake Tuttle, John Donnelly, as well as Engineer Art Roosa III (Washington Engine), strapped on their full turnout gear and ran the 14th Annual 5K Race, in honor of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller.

On September 11, 2001, Firefighter Siller worked an overnight shift at Brooklyn’s Squad 1. He was on his way to meet his brothers to play golf when the news of the World Trade Center attack came across his scanner. He turned around and grabbed his turnout gear instead of his clubs. Traffic was halted at the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, but that didn’t deter him. Undaunted, he strapped on 60 pounds of gear and ran through the tunnel and into history. The Stephen Siller Tunnel to The Towers foundation raises money for the design and construction of "smart homes” for our most critically wounded service members. 9/11 launched America into War, and many of our Vets need assistance. The homes are personally designed to meet the specific needs of veterans by using the latest technology, giving the heroes a new sense of independence.

Our group of firefighters managed to raise over $2800 for the cause, and crossed the finish line all around 40-45 minutes!

Needless to say, we are proud of this accomplishment by our members!
