Sometimes, a call for help isn't a true emergency, but a chance for us to help one of our residents in their time of need. Today was one of those times we got to do something for some younger residents, and their frightened feline friend.

Around 6:00 PM this Thursday, Chief Vlad (Car 2081), was notified by our dispatch center (60 Control) that a resident of Peter Beet Lane needed help getting their cat down from a tree behind the Croton Free Library on Cleveland Drive. He requested our Tower Ladder 44 to the scene to make the assist.

Upon further investigation, it was realized the scared kitty was close to 50 feet up in a tree, and we would need to use the 100 foot aerial ladder platform of TL44. Crew members Anita Dominello and Bill Gallagher went up in the bucket, while driver/operator John Munson delicately maneuvered the aerial device into position through several tree branches, some of which had to be cut out of the way.

Within 10 minutes, the members in the bucket of TL44 successfully retrieved the beloved family bet, and returned it to it's awaiting family.

As we always say, not every call we answer is a true emergency, but we do understand the importance of responding to the calls for help we receive, and we are always happy to be of assistance.

Units: 2081, 2082, 2083, TL44
