By Chief John Munson
January 6, 2013

In 2012, the volunteers of the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department were "paged out" to help someone in their time of need a total of 435 times. If it wasn't for the dedication, hard work and commitment of our members - all of which are VOLUNTEER - we would not be able to do what we do.

Our department prides ourselves on responding to every call promptly and with properly trained personnel each and every time. We are proud that we average close to SEVENTEEN members each call, with a "Dispatch to Door" time of close to only FOUR MINUTES. And, in 2012, there was not a single incident we could not respond to because of a lack of manpower - an accomplishment that not every fire department in the area was able to achieve!

The following is a break down of the types of incidents we were dispatched to in 2012:

Fire Alarms - 111
Gas/Smoke/CO Investigations - 81
Storm-Related Incidents - 70
Motor-Vehicle Accidents - 48
Misc. Service Calls (Incl. Elevator Incidents) - 33
Reported or Actual Smoke / Fire in a Structure - 25
Mutual/Automatic Aid Requests - 21
Other Reported / Actual Fires - 16
Rescues (Non-MVA) - 9
Hazardous Materials Incidents - 3
All Other Calls - 18

Last, and by no means least, is the list of our "Top Ten Responders" for 2012.

#1 Phil Dinkler (218 Calls)
#2 Joe Kempter (214 Calls)
#3 Ryan Howles (193 Calls)
#4 Dan Vlad (186 Calls)
#5 Bill Gallagher (183 Calls)
#6 Harold Lockwood (181 Calls)
#7 Bert Garcia (178 Calls)
#8 Chris Colombo (173 Calls)
#9 Tex Dinkler (164 Calls)
#10 Chris Rinaldi (156 Calls)

On behalf of Assistant Chiefs Bill Vlad, Matt Mansfield and I - THANK YOU ALL for always being there when we need you. The department and the Croton community are very fortunate to have such great people like you, coming to their aid when they need it most.

- John Munson, Chief of Department
