Volunteers Keep Busy in 2014's First Half
By Deputy Chief John Munson
July 7, 2014
The first half of the 2014 calendar year has kept Croton's Bravest busy. The 190 incidents we have handled range from the routine, such as car accidents, fire alarms and CO investigations, to the more advanced, such as structure fires and hazardous materials incidents.
The department answers each call with over 130 volunteers, bringing an average to each incident of about sixteen members. We operate three Engines, one Tower Ladder, one Tanker, one Rescue, two motorized boats and three Command Vehicles.
A breakdown of the incident types we have responded to in the first half of 2014 is listed below;
Fires: 33 Accidents: 15 Alarms - 56 Investigations - 55 Services - 11 Mutual Aid - 15 Other - 5
Our members are people just like you. We have jobs, families and other obligations in life, but manage to juggle all of this and put it on hold to help our neighbors in their time of need. We are there twenty-four hours a day, every day, without fail. Interestingly enough, when most of you - and most of us - are at work during the day, that's when the majority of calls for help come in. In fact, between 6AM and 6PM is when nearly 3/4 of all our incidents occur. Thanks to those members who work nights, work shifts, work in town and those that are retired, we are able to man our apparatus and show up to these calls. A listing of our "Top Responders" is here;
The Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department is ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW MEMBERS to join our amazing department. If you live in or work in the Croton area, and have an interest in helping our community, give us a shout. You can call us at (914) 271-2693 or email us at memberinfo@crotonfd.org!
