Bravest Keep Busy on Christmas Day

December 25, 2013

Three incidents pulled CFD volunteers from their families this Christmas Day. Fortunately, none of the incidents were too severe, nor did they take our members away from their holiday festivities for too long.

The first run came in at 8:45 AM for R18 & E120. Units were sent to a motor-vehicle accident on Olcott Avenue just south of Radnor Avenue. Car 2081 (Chief Munson) and Car 2082 (A/C Vlad) arrived one minute later, with Munson establishing Command. He reported a car struck a parked plow truck with minor damage.

R18 continued in to the scene to assist with traffic control until released by CPD and CEMS a half an hour later. The patient declined medical attention.

The next run, also for E120 & R18, came in at 10:50 AM for the report of parties stuck in the elevator at Croton-Harmon Train Station. When Car 2081 arrived on scene, he checked all four elevators and found them to be working without any persons within them. It is likely that the recent drop in temperature is slowing down the elevators, which commonly caused occupants to panic and call for help - only to have the doors open shortly thereafter. All units returned to service at 11:00.

The last run of the day was for E118, TL44 & T10. This was a residential fire alarm activated at a home on Teatown Road in Cortlandt. Car 2082 (A/C Vlad) arrived on scene and reported it to be set off by cooking smoke, and returned all units to service.

On behalf of the Chiefs of the CFD, we'd like to thank the dozens of Croton FD volunteers that put their holidays "on hold" to answer these calls.

Units: 2081, 2082, 2083, E118, E120, TL44, T10, R18
